It might be difficult to "worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness" (1 Chronicles 16:29) when the place of worship isn't all that conducive to holiness. It is sometimes said that beauty is fleeting, and as The Ugliest Churches in the World & Even More Ugly Churches shows, modern architecture seems to cause more eyesores than stirred souls. But thanks to restoration and preservation, beauty and worship do coexist. Cathedrals, mosques, and temples from Narino, Columbia, to Chicago, Illinois, have welcomed in people of faith for centuries.
